Organic Beauty Products & Trends

Organic Beatuy products are becoming a more and more popular trend, and you may not know it, but a lot of the organic products have been around, just not so much thought about to be used.  Not only are we thinking about whats good for our environment and how to save it, keep it from clutter, global warming, etc. but we are caring more about what we are using on our face, in our hair, and the list goes on and on.  A good reason to start using organic products for yourself is because lets start with makeup.  Foundation, the powders; have you ever looked into what you are actually putting on your skin, into your pores.  Yes, there have been the new mineral makeups, but still those contain many ingredients most of us have no clue even how to pronounce.  I'm sure you've all heard of Cover Girl Simply Powder foundation.  Can you imagine what ingredients are in it?  I hope not, here is a list :

Chemical CAS No / Unique ID
Octyldodecyl stearoyl stearate 000000-19-2
Glyceryl rosinate 000000-22-3
Propylparaben 000094-13-3
Methylparaben 000099-76-3
Zinc stearate 000557-05-1
Calcium silicate 001344-95-2
Quaternium-15 004080-31-3
Sodium dehydroacetate 004418-26-2
Bismuth oxychloride 007787-59-9
Lecithin 008002-43-5
Dextrin 009004-53-9
Methicone 009004-73-3
Dimethicone 350 009006-65-9
Mica 012001-26-2
Titanium dioxide 013463-67-7
Talc (non-fibrous) 014807-96-6
Octyldodecyl myristate 022766-83-2
Nylon-12 024937-16-4
Lauroyl lysine 052315-75-0
Tridecyl trimellitate 070225-05-7
Iron oxide(s) (unspecified) 999999-60-2
Silica (unspecified)

AND that is only one product.  I'm pretty sure when applying face makeup, we put on some blush, or a little powder over our foundation; imagine what else is going into your pores.

There are plenty of makeup brands that are taking this into consideration and providing organic products.  If you go to the Sephora website, there is a tab for Natural and Organic Products.  There is a difference between natural and organic.  Some of the natural products you may know are Bare Escentuals, Evian, Yu-Be, Tarte, Ren, NUDE skincare, or even OJON.  The term "natural" is not regulated by the FDA, so we've set high internal standards: high concentrations of plant-based and naturally derived ingredients, and fewer to no parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, phthalates, petrochemicals, and synthetic fragrances or dyes.  Butto use the term "organic," products must contain between 70-100% organic ingredients (without pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides), and be certified by an independent organization like the USDA, EcoCert, or the Soil Association.  Juice Beauty and NVEY Eco are two brands offered at Sephora.

Burts Bees is my favorite and a very popular organic product you may use without knowing you are using organic.  Burts Bees sells many products including truly natural skin care products, hair care products, soaps, lotions, and even natural baby products for the little ones.

Kate Hudson actually has her own organic shampoo now coming to a CVS and Target, so we know these celebs are just eating up and using these products like candy, that is only if they are organic.  Her ad is “Great for you hair. Great for the planet. With an exclusive blend of exotic ingredients free of sulfates, parabens, and animal testing, David Babaii for WildAid offers a radical innovation in style. And by donating 10% of profits to WildAid, the global wildlife organization, we’re helping you save endangered animals. While looking fabulous doing it.”

So which celebs use and love organic products? Uma Thurman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Alicia Silverstone, Heidi Klum, Lindsay Lohan, Evangeline Lilly, Sarah Chalke and the list goes on and on.

Two big shades for lipsticks and glosses were bright pink or shimmery champagne. Cheeks were mostly done in peach and eye makeup was minimal although sometimes shades of light gold were used as an eyeshadow.
