About Stac
I'm an aspiring fashion writer with an unnatural obsession for magazines! There have been many times when, down to my last ten dollars, I've chosen the latest issue of Vogue over dinner!
I adore colour, any colour, all colour (well, most) and the way they contrast and mix and change. It's intriguing!
Design, words, magazines (again) and fashion are the reasons why I am here and if I can somehow feed my hunger for these things, then I have made it!

Australian designer: Kate Hurst
With each and every piece of her collections Kate Hurst delivers classic, yet quirky, feminine style. The 28-year-old designer emerged from Sydney four years ago with the philosophy of “quality not quantity”. And has remained true to it and proud of the fact that all her pieces are Australian made. Her label’s style appeals to the 18-30 age group and has cemented a solid following, particularly in Sydney.

Fashion and style voice Mr Blackwell
“I merely said out loud what others were whispering”This statement makes me think that Mr Blackwell and I may have had a few things in common. I must admit I do love picking to pieces what others are wearing (even if I am only wearing track pants and a Bonds singlet!) but I’m also aware celebrities actually cared about HIS opinion…
Mr Blackwell, 86, passed away earlier this month and

Pizzuto 2009 Winter Collection
Hand painted silk and drapery were the staples of the Pizzuto new season range... Actually, they have been the staples of designer Susie Rose Vella's creations since day one. The winter collection, seductively titled La Vita Fashionista, was unveiled last week at the Piano Room, Potts Point to a fashionably hip mid-week crowd. The Pizzuto 2009 Collection Show differed from the preceding 'Prim and Proper' collection lastRead more...
Pete Versus Toby
Pete Versus Toby tees speak for themselves. And now so does their website. The new Pete Versus Toby website was launched recently and, just like their designs, the website is something a little different.
23-year-old Pete Versus Toby designer Marco Zirov said the label wanted to move away from the highly digitalised, artifical web scene.
"When it came time to update our website we thought caref

New Quiksilver for women
The tide has turned at Quiksilver. For the first time since the beach brand was born on the Australian coastline, the label will launch a women’s line. The year-round range will target the 18-24 women’s market and will move away from the traditional beachwear that has made Quiksilver famous.
The new line is feminine and pretty whilst retaining a classic tomboy feel. And not a swimsuit is to be se

Trend: Ankle boots
With the arrival of winter, it's only natural that the boot has reappeared in various shapes, sizes and colours. But it is the ankle boot that is drawing the most attention in the mid-season coolness. Ankle boots disappeared from the fashion landscape for a few years, but over the past couple of winters it has definitely gained a loRead more...
Trend: One shoulder dresses
A dress style so stunning that it can even look glamourous on Kate Ritchie... Yes, it's the one shoulder dress. And like any great style, it has returned to the forefront of the fashion merry-go-round. Now, if you're like me then anything with one shoulder reminds me of an episode of Kath & Kim when Kath only fake tans one arm - the wrong one! But Lisa Ho has proved that she can reinvent this outdated cut and restore it to iRead more...
Trend: Patent Leather (Part 2)
The proof was in the pudding at RAFW and patent leather is here to stay. Patent leather shoes particularly dominated most of the runway shows, not to forget belts, cuffs and bags of the same variety making scattered appearances throughout the week. Designers such as Jayson Brunsdon and Fleur Wood joined the bandwagon, while designer Daniel Avakian used the trend as the staple that brought his monochromatic Spring/Summer raRead more...
Trend: Man-style pants
Could this be the one trend to finally knock skinny jeans off their perch, high up in the fashionista tree? Hmmm, perhaps... With the amount of exposure this shape got during RAFW, I'd be surprised if the majority of people reading this blog were not wearing a pair right now! Man-style pants (for the ladies) are most definitely here to stay... well, at least for the next two seasons... Silence is Golden channeleRead more...
Trend: Androgyny
Guys wearing girls' clothes is by no means a new trend. The emos have been doing that for a few years now. But with an "anything goes" fashion climate, could androgyny be the new black? I came across a recent news story that proves just how wide this trend is speading with teen fashion store Supre witnessing a flood of teen to mid-20s males raiding the store's ample supply of skinny jeans and oversized T-shirts.Read more...
Trend: Micro Minis
The micro mini is never too far from the forefront of fashion. Sure, it may take a hiatus every now and then to make way for skinny jeans or high waisted shorts, but what fashion staple doesn’t?The micro mini has come a long way since the “swinging 60s” when it really came into fashion in the form of micro mini shift dresses and skirts.
It is one of those essential pieces that every functi

Trend: Frills
In the midst of a fashion climate in which it seems anything goes, designers have taken things one step further and have reintroduced us to the frill. Dreaded by many, the frill (or tiers of frills as it may be) can make even the thinnest model look a bit frumpy, and can conjure up memories of bridesmaid dresses gone wrong. Even so, the thrill of frill has returned for such designers as Stella McCartney and DolRead more...
Trend: Jumpsuits
An all-time childhood favourite is back in the fashion spotlight as the northern hemisphere’s spring/summer collections predict all-in-ones are the next big thing. In the US and the UK Stella McCartney, TopShop and Calvin Klein have heralded the return of this 1970s/80s style piece. And in Australia, even Tigerlily has caught onto this trend.
The jumpsuit/playsuit/all-in-one is part of a designer backla

Trend: Sheer
Sheer styles have dominated overseas fashion weeks across the world in recent months and are ideal in unruly change-of-season weather as they can be dressed up or down, covered up or completely exposed. The style itself is very lady-like and will only work with great lingerie. Wearing a shabby bra can completely destroy the glamour appeal of sheer. The best style of undergarment is the 1950s style that covers a lot while stilRead more...
Trend: High Street fashion
Stella McCartney… Zac Posen… Josh Goot… Alice McCall… Yeojin Bae… Sounds like a role call of some of the world’s top designers. Well, it is, but it is also just a few of the designers that have created a select range for the Target discount department store chain. Target sticks in my mind as the place where my mum would buy me my little denim overalls about 15 years ago. And 10 years ago IRead more...
Trend: Coloured Jeans
As sure as the day is long, there is one fashion staple that will never go out of fashion: the humble jeans. For over 100 years jeans have been the epitome of classic, casual cool. And I dare say they will continue to be the foundation of this style for another 100 years to come. But… I hate to say it… blue jeans can get a bit, well, boring. I know there are straight leg, skinny leg, trouser leg, stone wash, dark rinRead more...
Trend: Suit Jackets
Like I always say "if it's good enough for Stella McCartney, it's good enough for me!" and that is most certainly the case with one of the hottest looks off the catwalk this winter. The suit jacket gets spiced up and makes the cold, gloomy months ahead look a whole lot hotter. The sexed-up suit jacket look is simple and still classic, but with a modern twist. Teamed with dresses, skirts or leggings, rather than boringRead more...
Trend: Brightly coloured shoes
Brightly coloured shoes will reign this autumn. As the weather gets dark and gloomy, fashion (particularly shoes) will step up and bring back the vibrant hues of the warmer months. Leading by the examples of designer shoes from international fashion houses such as Balenciaga, Jimmy Choo and Prada, cheaper brands are jumping on the brightly coloured bandwagon. CheckRead more...
Trend: Swirls
It may seem like we are heading back to the future with the recent influx of 1960s-inspired fashion and this week is no exception as we witness the comeback of the humble swirl. Swirl prints, as part of the new hippie luxe style, have been seen on the catwalks of Kenzo and Stella McCartney. Swirl power is back in the limelight, a long time since its beginnings on the fashion scene when EmiRead more...
Trend: Patent leather
There is nothing shinier than patent leather and instead of looking like a dominatrix, the new season has patent leather taking over the world of accessories. Think oversized bags and sky high heels. Mulberry was one of the first labels to re-invent the trend with their gorgoeous Roxanne tote bag, available in red, blue, black and white. Patent leather shoes in the same colours are also going to be huge. If Jimmy Choo follRead more...
Trend: Graphic prints
All eyes were on New York last week as one of the world’s most fashion-forward cities unveiled Autumn/Winter collections. And once again, it left most fashionistas frothing at the mouth in anticipation of the season to come! One trend that was highlighted throughout the week was the return of the bold graphic print. Returning once again after previous stints in the 60s, 70s and 80s (it had a long deserved rest inRead more...

Trend: Anoraks
The best way to warm during the coming cooler months will be to snuggle up in an anorak. With the rain drenching Sydney and turning our endless summer into a scene from Noah’s Ark, it seems like the wet season is here to stay. The new style anorak is a funkier, more streetwise kind of protection from the elements. The puffy jacket is no longer confined to Mary J. Blige and her tribe, but that urban style has made it&rsRead more...
Trend: Accentuate your curves
Now that feminine dressing has returned to the forefront of fashion yet again, it’s important to know how to flaunt your curves in a ladylike manner. Fashion royalty Valentino highlighted the trend with their latest collection during a showing at Paris Couture Spring 2008 last week. Cinched waists, strapless dresses, full-flowing chiffon and full skirts marked the assault against the man-style pants and boxy, cropped jacketsRead more...
Trend: Feminine Fashion
In terms of feminine fashion, celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe should be the poster girl. Her relaxed, yet glamourous style has caught the world’s attention and her clients instantly become “it” girls. This is because she has mastered the art of feminine dressing. Rachel has been quoted as saying “leave the tracksuit and scrappy T-shirt for when no one else is around. Even then, it can do you plentyRead more...
Trend: The Shirtdress
The perfect summer fashion statement for 2008 has gotto be the shirtdress. The resurgence of this all-time classic has been sighted around holiday hot-spots and recent summer festivals, and it's time to admit the style is definitely back! The versatility of the shirtdress and the lightweight, summery feel make it a must-have during the warmer months. Worn over-sized with dark sunglasses and a pair of strappy sandals equals instanRead more...
Trend: Statement accessories
A statement accessory has been cool since the dawn of time. Think of it as your own personal trademark, a little something that distinguishes you from the masses and that will possibly be remembered long after you are gone. The ultimate classic example of this would be Jackie Onassis' (former Kennedy) oversized sunglasses and headscarves. She made this trend hot decades before the Olsen Twins were born. The same even goes

Trend: Kaftans
Kaftans are the suddenly cool alternative to baring all in the summer sun. Whilst retaining their 1970s charm, the kaftan is no longer a beach accessory for the older generation. Trend: Bold & bright colour
Nothing says summer like a splash of yellow, right? Well, this is no new trend but as we have finally progressed into the best season of the year (even though it has been raining in Sydney), what better way to celebrate than to adorn oneself in colour. And there are no rules for once. It seems that any colour is hot right now! Bold and bright red, yellows and oranges, and pastel, faded pinks and blues. You name it, you can

Trend: Monochromatic dressing
Nothing says cool, sophisticated style like wearing black and white. Think Kate Moss, Bianca Jagger and Liz Hurley. The style oozes with self-confidence and, teamed with sunnies and over-sized bag, has become the staple dress of the Olsen twins. It seems that a style so simple is a breath of fresh air in the current fashion climate. Surrounded by neon fluro, bold primary colours and an over abundance of prints and patterns

Trend: Maxi dresses

Trend: One piece swimsuits
One piece swimsuits are back on the fashion radar and you don't need to be over 65 to wear one anymore. Paris Hilton wore one as she sizzled on the sand with Aussie surfer Tyler Atkins a couple of months ago and it was at that point I knew the tide had turned.Since then the number of one-piece swimsuits in the marketplace has sky-rocketed, as has Paris' collection of them. The most popular being those with cut-outs (whi

Trend: French Riviera glamour
The French are commonly associated with fries, frogs and rudeness but there's a side of France that is all about long sun-soaked summer days and utmost elegance - the Riviera. And this summer, a little bit of glamour is just what is needed on the beach or by the pool. If it's good enough for James Packer and Erica Baxter, it's good enough for us! Plus, David Jones did their summer 2007 catalogue shoot there, so you know the trend is goRead more...
Trend: Sequins and Metallics
This coming summer sparkles are in!Okay, so sequins may remind you of a jazz ballet costume you had to wear at a concert in the 80s (or is that just me?), but trust me it is by far the best way to stand out in a crowd. Sequins are no longer doomed to the realms of the wardrobe department of Dancing With The Stars, they are making their way back to the mainstream baby!

Trans Seasonal Fashion Week
I've heard some murmurs, particularly from a major Sydney newspaper, that Trans Seasonal Fashion Week is a non-event.Okay, most of the big name Aussie designers have opted out of the showing, but the best thing about that is that it leaves some room for the young guns to get a look in.
Don't get me wrong -- I love labels such as Alice McCall, One Teaspoon and Shakuhachi, but everyone needs to get their big
