2threads was lucky enough to chat to Rochelle about her interests, her favourite label Zipporra.
Why and when did you decide to create a blog?
I love fashion but more than that I do a lot of things. I am creative creature so I am always mixing it up. I work on radio, model (sometimes), do a bit of presenting and I DJ as a hobby. Blogging was a way of pulling all those elements together. Plus when I started, I kind of hoped having to write publicly would help my spelling and grammar! Its my tragic weakness!
What influences your dress and style on a day to day basis?
Everything! It’s nuts, I really do think that I gobble up my surroundings and let them inspire me. I always carry a note pad and I am constantly capturing screenshots of anything I see and love on my iPhone from twitter and instagram.
Can you name some of your favourite clothes or accessories, and why.
I love so many Australian labels but Zipporra is always my ‘go to’. It’s my cousin, Karen Fulton’s label and she is so talented. Her designs are very ME and she takes a lot of inspiration from our grandma Betty who has passed away, so it’s very close to my heart. For day-to-day wear, my favourite things are overalls, denim, leather, converse shoes, tilbery hats, and anything bright and loud.
Your blog is very lively and fun, and one post is never the same as the next. How do you keep things new and fresh in the world of blogging?
I am just being myself on my blog. I am really just a 5’10 blonde goof ball doing what she loves, so my blog is just me in all my craziness. I think if you’re going to blog, you have to be yourself and have fun. I always have fun when I shoot for my blog.
Do you think your style has evolved by having a blog?
Yes, definitely! My blog has pushed me to try new things, I spend my money on a lot more from international magazines! (laughs) I am always challenging what my style is. Recently I’ve tried to embrace minimalism more in my day to day outfits and rely less on colour. I use a lot of colour when I dress and sometimes I feel it makes me look a bit Barbie and that’s my polar opposite!
Do you think that the world of blogging has opened up your opportunities?
Yeah, I guess it’s helped me pull all my different jobs together and created a really great creative headspace which in turn has given me more focus and on track with my career. It’s really a great platform for me because I am a lot more than a ‘Blogger.’
What elements do you think make for a successful fashion blog?
Be yourself. Be original. Have fun and don’t be in it for the idea of getting freebies!!!! Be true to your readers and be prepared to put in a lot of time and effort. Blogging is VERY time consuming, but if you make the effort then you will go far in your own way.
Can you name some of your favourite Australian fashion blogs?
I love Boy Moments, Tuula, and Gary Pepper Vintage (She also has a great online store were I go to buy my favourite pair of overalls), Breakfast with Audrey, 4thandbleeker, spencer not spencer and April Rose Pengilly- to be honest there is a huge list!
