2threads Interview CrashingRed Blogger

Sydney based Maria Vlezko created her blog CrashingRed last year as a means of documenting her style and DIY projects.  Infused with a sense of European charm, CrashingRed hosts Maria’s wealth of fashion knowledge; sharing the fundamentals for polishing your style, how to make DIY fringing, what’s in her wardrobe and how to pack lightly for a trip away.

2threads took the opportunity to interview this self confessed ‘red lipstick lover’ about having founded the Australian Bloggers Fashion Union, and her highlights and inspirations as a blogger.

 Maria Vlezko

What inspired you to start your blog?

I started CrashingRed.com partly out of curiosity and partly because of a desire to share some of the style and beauty knowledge I have.

Bloggers are continuously gaining more recognition – especially in fashion.  What has been the highlight for you as a blogger so far?

Probably, some of the recent events where I shared a table with the editors of Vogue, Marie Claire and other popular fashion magazines.  I had to pinch myself!

Maria Vlezko

You share a lot advice on your blog – from how to promote a blog, to how to create a DIY painted neon necklace.  What inspires you to share your knowledge?

I guess its a desire to show that it’s not necessary to spend a lot to look fantastic and right on trend.  Some things are actually really easy to make, I’m just sharing how.

You founded the Australian Bloggers Fashion Union.  Are you able to tell us a little about how that came about?

I founded AFBU to support our local fashion blogging community and to create a space where we could network, discuss various issues, share experiences and basically give each other advice.

What would you say influences your sense of style?

My mood influences it a lot. Choice of colours, for example…

I’ve noted you’re European – have you noticed fashion differs between Europe and Australia?

Yes, of course!  The beach culture and a relaxed lifestyle leave a big foot print on fashion in Australia.  In Europe, people like to dress up and place more importance on being original.  It can result in some OTT fashion choices by Australian standards.

What are your wardrobe staples?

Great quality shirt/blouse, tailored jacket and investment shoes.

With a husband and bubba, you must be busy – how do you manage your time?

We have a schedule whereby we both work 7 days (and nights) a week.  My fiancee, Joseph, helps out a lot with the blog so I’m very lucky his skillset is so useful!  That gives us a few hours each week to hang out and relax together as a family.  So yes, we are very busy most of the time!

Apart from your Moja – your jewellery venture, what else else are you passionate about, or spend your time doing?

As described above, there’s not much time for anything else!  But… I’m hoping to start making my own clothes again and drawing.  Both I can do very well!

Where can we find you?

In terms of geographical location – Sydney, at the moment!

Or you can find me online – anytime!
