Designer Rachel Gilbert
If you love the glamour of fashion, frills and sequins included, then you will without doubt love Rachel Gilbert’s designs. Based in Sydney and having studied at the prestigious White House Institute of Design, Gilbert began work as a fit model/ assistant designer for Lisa Ho. This strong start in the fashion industry sky-rocketed Gilbert to even greater heights.
As Gilbert relaunched her label Rachel Gilbert Sydney at the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, 2007, she had already worked for numerous established designers, and had a vast portfolio behind her. After working with Lisa Ho, she assisted as a women’s wear designer for Morrissey. What is most surprising in Gilbert’s resume, however, is her work with Nicky Hilton for her label Chick. Gilbert worked closely with Hilton in New York as a designer for Chick, but it seems Gilbert was destined to be head designer of her own label. Her extensive success in designing for Chick, and her love of luxury fabrics and delicate detailing allowed Gilbert to pursue her goal of creating her own label. Her experience working with two of Australia’s leading designers is evident in her collections; Gilbert incorporates her knowledge of fabrics and classic feminine pieces into her garments, with a clear objective to create elegant yet confident designs.

Rachel Gilbert’s designs are often embellished with shimmering sequins and hand-crafted beading, adding that little touch of sparkle to a classically romantic piece. Rhinestones, jewels and fringing are clear signatures of her collections, perfect for the party girl. If you are after a more refined, elegant look, her floor-length dresses and gowns are hard to pass. For the ultimate in chic and elegant garments, Rachel Gilbert is the envy of many. Her label is only four years in the making and has so far had immense success internationally and throughout Australia- we can only expect that this twinkling star has much more to show the world.
