Dip Dying Hairstyle Trend For Winter 2012
A fashion trend that I’ve spotted on girls across fashion blogs, my uni campus and on various celebrities is the new dip dyed hair trend. Basically what ”dip dyed“ means is that only half of the hair is dyed a different colour, leaving the hair towards the top of the head natural.
What I really love about this trend is that if anything happens (as in you really mess up the dip dye), only half of your hair is ruined (I kid!). Although it may sound like I’m joking, recently I had a not-so-good experience when dip dying my hair. By leaving the dye on too long, I accidentally dyed my hair a corn yellow color on the bottom, with black on the top (trust me it was not a pretty sight). But with another box of brown hair dye I was able to fix the disaster, and make myself look slightly normal again (photo shown below on the right).
There are many ways to experiement with dip dying. You can use different colors such as red or blue, or simply go with a natural shade that is slightly lighter than your current hair color. While getting a box of hair dye from your local pharmacy is a lot cheaper, you can also get it done at a salon if you’re worried about making a mistake (like me!). Here are some steps you can follow below if you’re ambitious and want to dip dye yourself.
Happy dip dying!
