Dove Diaries’ Michelle C’s Striped Spring Nails Tutorial

Spring is just around the corner and what better way to get in the mood than with a fun striped manicure using pastel colours and the fimo clay I showed you yesterday.  Today I have a tutorial to show you just how quick and simple nail art can be!  It’s guaranteed to have you in the mood for the warmer weather.

What you will need for this look:

* Base coat
* Base colour of your choice
* White striper polish
* Clear polish
* fimo slices in designs of your choice (see yesterdays post on how to prepare them)
* Cuticle stick/toothpick
* Topcoat

Step 1.  Apply base coat to protect your natural nails

Step 2.  Apply your base colour.

Apply 1-2 coats of your chose base colour.  Here I’ve used a different pastel colour on each nail for something fun but you can just stick to one colour.

Step 3.  Draw 4-5 vertical lines across your nail.

Use the white striper polish to draw 4-5 vertical nails across your nail.  Striper polishes have a very long and fine brush making it easy to draw thin lines.

You could stop at this point and just apply topcoat for a super simple manicure but continue on for something different.

Step 4.  Apply clear polish to the end of a cuticle stick.

This is so you can pick up the fimo slices to place on the nail. You don’t have to use a cuticle stick for this – you can use a toothpick, pencil or anything that has a point. The clear polish can be any old clear polish – it can be your topcoat, anything.

Step 5.  Apply clear polish to the nail to the area where you want your fimo clay to go.

Do this step one finger at a time as you need the polish to be wet to enable the fimo slices to adhere to the nail. You could also use nail glue if you prefer.

Step 6.  Use the cuticle stick which you’ve loaded with clear polish to pick up the fimo slice
You may need to reapply clear polish to the cuticle stick as you go.

Step 7.  Position the fimo cane where you want it on your nail
Use the cuticle stick or your fingers to help lay the the slices flat on to your nails. Continue adding fimo until you’ve achieved your desired look.

Step 8.  Apply your favourite topcoat to seal your nails.

Menicure Complete!
