How to Wear the Messy Braid
Looking for a casual hairstyle that’s easy to do but still looks great? The messy side braid that Alexander Wang brought to the runway a few seasons ago is one of the more underestimated hairstyles and looks pretty whatever the weather. This ultra-feminine and versatile style can be done in a matter of minutes.
Part your hair in a deep side part and pull the lengths over the opposite shoulder to start. “A side part makes hair look fuller but keeps the length” says Travis Balcke (hair and make-up artist). Don’t feel that you have to brush your hair, rake it with your fingertips to keep the messy look authentic.
Next do a classic three-strand plait roughly down your shoulder, trying not to keep it too ‘school-girl neat’. Once you’ve secured the braid, give it a little shake. Slowly pull at the plait from top to bottom to loosen it and make it bigger, this should make it look as if your hair is thicker and complete the messy look.
