Interview With Your Only Black Swan Blogger
If you’re seeking some fashion inspiration then look no further thenYour Only Black Swan. Creator Lauren Hernandez mixes her artistic flair into her wardrobe giving us some real style envy! I got a chance to chat with one of 2threads favourite fashion bloggers about her blog as well as all things style!
What was the meaning behind your title, Your only Black Swan? Are you a black swan?
‘Black Swan’ was one of them that represented a few things; the girl who stood out amongst her group of friends, the one who always liked to wear black, my undeniable split personality of a true Gemini and then the 13 years I practiced ballet. ‘Black swan’ made sense at the time and the name just stuck.
You have quite a distinct style but do you have any particular influences?
It can pretty much be anything and anyone. As not only a reader of fashion blogs, I like to trawl design-specific blogs/websites and happily look forward to receiving my daily e-newsletter from Etsy – I do like being surprised! ‘People watching’ can be a lot of fun too and even a walk down the street can jog inspiration. With my iTunes library featuring a myriad of genres, I also feel music plays a big role in influencing my mood and ultimately dressing the way I feel.
Your fashion shoots are a great personal touch to your blog, where do you get inspiration for them?
Thank you! I know street-style posts are a common favourite, but sometimes I like to go all out and experiment with interesting locations, camera angles and really have fun with it all. I find my inspiration from magazine editorials, movie scenes or by simply pulling colours from an outfit and building upon them with my surroundings.
Online fashion including blogs is playing such a prominent role for Australian fashion, what are your thoughts on this?
I think it’s great and a strong indication of what’s become of the fashion world today due to the influence of social media and ‘going digital’. Blogs are easy to access and provide instant, dynamic content that cater for the immediacy and “see now, want now, eat now, shop now” attitude people experience today.
It’s probably your hardest and most asked question, but what is your favourite item in your wardrobe?
It would have to be my gold Marc by Marc Jacobs chronograph watch. I received it as a gift while I was entering a new chapter in my life and with each glance at the time, I’m reminded that good things come to those who wait.
What’s your winter look this season?
I’m loving chunky cable knits, ankle boots and a good pair of cuffed trousers. I will also need to get my hands on a stylish beanie, as ever since cutting my hair short I feel the cold!
