Made In Melbourne showcase
Artechoke designers Lyn and Zoe Nagara pulled together a band of independent Melbourne designers in a showcase parade at the Order of Melbourne last week. Together with Lenko, Who Am Eye, Die Pretty, Limedrop, Rest in Peace, Kosi Kosi and Serena van der Woodsen, the Artechoke girls displayed their stuff to a sold out crowd who were also treated to some visual video art for good measure. Some highlights of the show;
A simple, crop-sleeve white hoodie for the guys stood out due the the quirky print. Three wolves leaping across the front make for a whimsical motif from one-man label Kosi Kosi.
Young designer label Serena Van der Woodsen likes to play with plastic. Her glossy synthetic pieces evoke images of Wonder Woman on a dominatrix bent. A fire-engine red one-piece bodysuit with emphasised flutter shoulders (an upcoming trend this summer) would look fab toned down for the everyday with a simple denim pencil skirt.
This impractical but striking outfit was the highlight of the parade for me. Featuring a metallic silver bodysuit with black flowing overcoat. I wish I could get away with wearing that to run down the street to grab some milk. The model just looked badass in it, cold – but awesome nonetheless.
The Rubik’s cube print shorts from Artechoke caught our eye her a while ago when we featured the piece as a hot good. The simple, colourful unisex style would look cute on guys or girls this summer. The label also had some disturbingly cute tees. Their blue ‘Peace’ tee features sharp teeth that remind me of the Om Nom Nom monster.
All proceeds from this celebration of our local indy designers went to the Reach Foundation. Check out the full gallery by clicking here.
