Marilyn Monroe’s Designer Steps Out

Everyone knows  sex symbol Marilyn Monroe but not many have heard of a talented designer behind her iconic dresses. Dressing Marilyn is a new book that unveils the secrets  William Travilla, who designed the world famous white halter neck dress from The Seven Year Itch and the pink gown she wore as she sung Diamond’s Are A Girl’s Best Friend.

Marilyn Monroe

Dressing Marilyn features never-seen-before dress patterns, sketches and rare costume test shoots, as well as exclusive interview extracts with Travilla himself. The book offers an in-depth look at Monroe’s costumes, the process behind them and into the life of the star herself.

“There were two Marilyn Monroes,” Travilla explained. “She never did anything without thinking about it first; she knew exactly what she wanted to achieve and she always got it. She was going to be seen by the public as the most glamorous, magnificently beautiful movie star, or she would be seen as a slob, a slob to the point of putting lanolin on her face and hair, making it greasy.”

So if you are sincerely interested in the fashion of that times or just adore Marilyn Monroe (Let’s face it, who doesn’t ?) grab a copy of the book to learn more about the truly amazing designer who managed to create a couple of the most iconic movie dresses ever.

Dressing Marilyn is available to buy now online and from most bookstores.
