MBFWA Highlights: Day 3
Another fashion-packed day at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia on day 3 with an Australian design mainstay, Lisa Ho, opening the day off-site. Her collection was followed by a range of iconic labels including celeb favourite Ellery, unique Alice McCall and An Ode To No One. Highlights of the day included:
Lisa Ho
This new range was inspired by the theatricality of the Ballets Russes. The drama comes from the bold mixing together of vibrant colours and clashing prints. The collection was both youthful and modern, but always wearable and flattering. Key colours include citrus, emerald and admiral blue, contrasted with nude, black, navy and white.
Alice McCall
This collection, entitled ‘Babooshka’, was inspired by a trip into Hungarian folk art, needlepoint, embroideries and Russian babushka dolls. She used silhouettes such as apron necklines, lampshade skirts, sundresses and onesies.
Sara Phillips
Sara Phillips used the beautiful illustrations of childhood books like Animalia by Graeme Base as the basis for her line. Unique prints, soft tailoring and a penchant for luxurious fabrications are the common threads that draw her collection together. Phillips will cleverly pair classic tailoring alongside fluid shapes with individual creativity and an unsurpassed passion for attention to detail.
Ellery
The ‘delicatessen’ collection was a homage to an adored childhood possession of the designer, Kym Ellery. The collection stayed true to Ellery’s fundamentals including minimalist draping with an architectural edge, amongst voluminous sleeves, skirted-shorts and their signature peplums.
Hardwick
Established Melbourne bridal couturier Mariana Hardwick unveiled her highly anticipated ready-to-wear collection. The ‘Day into Night’ showing was inspired by sunrises and sunsets will draw inspiration from the beautiful natural wonders of he Australian landscape, rocky outcrops, long horizons, plains and water silhouettes created by the striking southern sun.
Watson X Watson
Sisters Somer and Liberty Watson launched their label, Watson x Watson, just over one year ago. The collection is designed in regard to having pieces that define everyday luxury and easy glamour with a relaxed, sexy appeal. The collection offers confident and creative young women fresh and unique designs. With beautiful prints and fabrics, soft fits and clean lines, each Watson x Watson piece is effortlessly wearable and refined.
An Ode to No One
