Miss Unkon At MBFWA Day 1

During Day 1 of MBFWA, Miss Unkon delivered a collection that heralded two of Spring/ Summer’s top trends; Pretty Pastels & Electrifying Neons. The collection titled ‘The Life Between’ exuded a medley of these hues with juxtaposing fabrics that fused feminine, yet edgy accents.

A delicate fresh backdrop inside the Theatre allowed the latest collection for Miss Unkon to exists as the centrepiece of the show. This collection exists as an exploration of unearthing unconventional exquisiteness, inspired further through the art deco era of the Miami landscape.

Creative Visionary, Courtney Meyer, takes us on a journey through a ‘wonderland of dreams’ with the Miss Unkon woman who is youthful, has a purpose and exudes creativity. The fresh mixture of sorbet shades with a hint of neon and intricate metal embellishments certainly paid homage to the Miss Unkon ethos. Detailed embroidery was also weaved throughout the collection cementing itself as a signature ornamentation.

Our Q & A With Designer Courtney Meyer

What is your background in the fashion industry?

I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a designer and would even put on fashion shows for my family. I didn’t study fashion design, I am self taught and set out to learn through experience.

Who is the Miss Unkon girl?

The Miss Unkon girl is youthful, has a purpose and exudes creativity. Unafraid of venturing into unchartered territories, the Miss Unkon girl has a clear idea of who she wants to be.

Where did you draw inspiration from for the S/S collection?

The summer 2012/13 collection, ‘The Life Between’ was inspired by the possibilities and wonderment of life, it is about the beauty in the unexpected. I fell in love with the vibrancy of the art deco era of Miami where the punches of colour resonated with me and the direction I wanted to explore for this collection.

What do you see in the future for Miss Unkon?

I am passionate in continuing to create an innovative label that everyone can be a part of! This year I am excited for Miss Unkon to grow both here at home in Australia and internationally.

‘The Life Between’ is available in selected boutiques nationally and online through the Miss Unkon website. The label has recently further strengthened their international presence and is available through retailer leaders such as Revolve (US) and Beams (Japan).
