PFW Highlight: Rochas

For this season, Rochas designer Marco Zanini took inspiration from Swedish ceramics artist Willhelm Kage. Never heard of him? Neither have we, but that didn’t stop us from admiring his influence on Rochas newest slightly-librarian, slightly-60′s collection.

The square design made famous by Kage appeared on almost every piece on the Paris runway from flared pants to super comfy looking granny jumpers to silky high waisted skirts – the print was the constant of the collection whether kept original or blown up, plainly coloured or against a bright shade.

For all that use you would think that print would be something gorgeous, something out of this world but it’s exactly the opposite; really it’s almost ugly. But that’s  exactly what Zanini was going for. According to Style.com, Zanini saw the collection as having a “certain disregard for quiet good taste” and the print that could possibly find in your grandma’s wardrobe certainly fitted that bill but he didn’t stop there.

Paris Fashion Week Highlight: Rochas

Brown loose, flared pants paired with an army green just as loose jumper, clashing of brown tights with a blue skirt, a mid-length fully button black dress paired with a belted black grandpa cardigan and grey tights it almost looked like the ministers wife’s wardrobe if the minister lived in the middle of nowhere, but it also surprising still wearable mayhaps in smaller quantities and not on first dates.

Though the majority pieces stuck to the librarian look there were some more playful and girly looks in the form of jumpsuits awkwardly patterned but showing a lot of cleavage  and some cute 60′s style work wear that covered up but still alluded to a feminine shape; think Peggy Olson from Mad Men after her make over into a independent women (you could even see the other pieces being Peggy pre-make over).

Rochas may not be everyone (I can already see the tight fitted Balmain loving girls looking at this collection with a questionable look on their faces) but it’s hard not love the brands devotion to highlighting the awkwardness in all of us. Afterall, who doesn’t have a day when you just want to wear baggy pants and a grandpa jumper?
